I swear Namaskar seasons their rice with the blood of baby angels or something. How do they make it so yummy!?!?! Screw this chicken korma, I just want RICE.
I see cloves in there, and cardamom seeds, not pods but seeds, and I smell saffron, and jasmine...
maybe it's butter!??!
butter is sort of like the blood of baby angels after all.... hmmmm.....
innnnnnnnteresting. |

i've been in a bit of a funk since finding a significant pool of water in my basement saturday afternoon. the prospect of renovations stresses me out more than i can say. i'll eventually think about it rationally but it's beyond me at the moment. still, it's embarrassing to be blessed in so many ways and sit around meditating on the 'humph' sounds for days on end. but that's where i am.
makes me think of my favourite ode to adolescence.
and you know she's half crazy that's why you want to be there
...
And now, a game:
- Post 3 things you've done in your lifetime that you don't think anybody else on your friends list has done. - See if anybody else responds with "I've done that." If they have, you need to add another!(2.b., 2.c., etc...) - Have your friends cut & paste this into their journal to see what unique things they've done in their life.
1. confused the equator with a canyon running alongside the sign 2. picked cherries in an orchard and climbed a glacier on the same day 3. got sourdough starter from a sailor |

| Hi, Steam Bath Much? |
[Jun. 30th, 2008|10:42 am] |
YUCK.
I wish today would decide to either rain or be sunny, or whatever, just as long as this steam bath crap stops happening. I feel like a steamed wonton. Slippery, limp, and salty.
In better news, my darling Jenn is visiting my garden today with the Little Man, and I'm making some tasty treats inspired by the middle east for lunchings!
Starting out is a white bean dip with half-sharp paprika, 4 garlic cloves, an onion, olive oil, lemon juice and oregano from my deck garden, and then I think I'll do turkish chicken lettuce wraps, with lettuce from the garden of course... and to drink maybe some deck garden lavender lemonade!
speaking of gardens! Mine is coming along awesomely. Thom's sister Meredith came down to help me on saturday and we did a bunch of weeding and mulching and shopping for some plants, which we then planted. I got several varieties of eggplant, white and purple and marbled. And some peruvian hot green peppers , bell peppers, an heirloom zucchini plant, some acorn squash and pumpkins!
The peas are busily making peas, I think we'll have a fantastic harvest this year with all this rain. I have cucumbers, summer squash & zucchini coming up, these got started really late but I'm hoping they'll catch up. I put down tomato cages for the tomatoes which are flowering nicely. The lettuce is doing well, but I won't plant one of the varieties again, it's super bitter, and although I like it, it's not practical for feeding other people who don't like bitter flavors like I do.
There's also butternut squash, and beets! I didn't get to plant carrots or parsnips this year, but maybe next year. The other leafy greens aren't faring well. A lot of them bolted as I didn't get to them fast enough to trim them down, one thing on a list of challenges that occur due to my garden being 40 miles away from me the majority of the week... but such is life.
I keep thinking everything is WAY behind, but then I remember that it's only the last week in June and for New England, I'm not doing so bad. Especially considering I didn't start anything indoors this year at all. I feel pretty lame buying plants, but you know what? I just didn't have time to do everything. I'm okay with that. At least I'm doing something, and that's better than nothing right? ;)
oh speaking of gardens again, Jen M. I got your message and I'm sorry but I don't have any Before pictures... I can surely take some After, and After After pictures though if that would be helpful? |

I get really grossed out thinking about the possibility of being in the same 10 foot radius as Amy Winehouse's hair.
What if the hair accidently touched me?
it's just terrifically disgusting. |

| social interaction |

I actually socialized quite a bit this week. In fact I probably went out more this week alone than I have in the last 3 months! It was pretty fun! For the interested, here are a few of my adventures in photo form with a teaser:

It is so odd to be all at once completely happy* within myself but about 75% dissatisfied with my life.
I think maybe I've finally found the secret to being a happy, joyful, walking down the street with a smile on my face being nice to people, human being, even despite the fact that I'd really super enjoy it if some very important big deal type things would evolve to their next state as soon as possible.
I wish I could tell you how I do it, so you could too, but I think it's a secret that's different for everyone and you need to just find your own secret clue.
Mine has a lot to do with empathy, unconditional love, a feeling of purpose/belonging/living to my fullest potential, & being sheltered, clothed, well-fed, loved, and safe.
*by happy I don't mean that I'm like bouncing off the walls 24/7 but just that I am able to access joy pretty much whenever I need it. |
